The Mixer Conundrum

Adam is such a unique little boy. While other children attach to blankets, stuffed animals, or some generally soft version of a lovey, Adam has attached to mixers. As in, the big KitchenAid ones. At first, he was content to play with the metal bowl and beater, and, I'm not kidding, slept with them at nap times! But then he wanted to play with the mixer itself... it got to where every morning, as soon as he woke up, he would go to the kitchen gate and start having tantrums, and that would continue all day. So one day, we were at Toys R Us, and you'll never guess what they had-- a mixer, his size!

He LOVES it.

He wants to take it everywhere. He wants to sleep with it. He likes putting little colored pom-pom balls in it to watch them "mix."

Unfortunately, it's made for children 3+. Which I've come to understand is a term that not only refers to choking hazards, but also to general durability. He's had the toy since Tuesday, and it's already broken. One of the attachments I had to throw away, and the whole thing won't work because all the wires snapped after about the 20th high drop. We do intend to fix it, but for now it is hiding on our closet shelf... he still knows it's missing, though... back to the kitchen gate tantrums...
