Giant Squirrels From Seattle!

Sounds like a MST movie, doesn't it? :D

Today as Adam and I were playing on the floor, I looked over at our sliding door and saw this little head at the bottom. At first I thought it was a cat-- it was the right size-- but then I realized it was a squirrel. (The squirrels out here are HUGE*! Seeing them against the lush green foliage makes it look like everything got sprinkled with "Miracle-Gro".) I pointed it out to Adam, who was intrigued! He got up to go see it and I told him he'd scare it away. He went anyway. He went right up to the door and even swung the blinds at it, and it just looked in. I guess it's lived here long enough it knows about glass doors. So there it sat on our little porch step, peering in. Adam really wanted to pet it, and tried as hard as he could to open the door, and tell me that he wanted the door opened. After a few minutes, the squirrel left, swishing its raccoon-sized bushy tail after it. Adam patiently watched the porch for the next ten minutes waiting for it to come back. It did, but only briefly. I thought about leaving some food out for it so it would come back, but I decided not to. There are lots of ants out here, some of which are colored a dangerous angry red and I most certainly do not want them thinking of my porch as a buffet.

So that was the end of our squirrel encounter. Maybe he'll visit again tomorrow. Adam hopes so.

Then again, maybe he won't come back. Which would be good, since the whole experience made me contemplate getting a gerbil for Adam... (shudder)...

*So are all the other animals. Blackbirds? They look like black chickens. Slugs? I though a small branch was lying in our path. It's insane. Maybe our kids will grow up to be six feet tall, though... :D
